Guided tour on Father's Day

To mark Father’s Day, this special family tour invites you to take a look at the wide variety of fatherly roles in the animal world. Whilst some animal ‘macho types and Casanovas’ leave behind as many offspring as possible without taking any further interest in them, there are also impressive examples of caring and devoted fathers.

The approximately 1.5-hour tour through the zoo offers fascinating insights into the family life of various animal species and demonstrates just how varied the division of tasks between mothers and fathers can be. It becomes clear that some animal dads prefer to stay in the background, whilst others are fully committed to raising their young.

The result is a varied journey through the world of animal families – featuring surprising, entertaining and educational stories about care, responsibility and different survival strategies in the animal kingdom.

    • In which animal species do fathers take on a particularly active or even sole role in raising their young?
    • What different strategies do animal species employ to ensure the survival of their offspring?
