Pink Ambassador

At our information stand, visitors are invited to discover the fascinating world of these pink, long-legged waterbirds with their curved beaks. Fascinating insights into the lifestyle of the elegant greater flamingos reveal why they have been chosen as the key ambassadors for the protection of threatened wetlands.

Wetlands of all kinds – be they lakes, rivers, moors or river deltas – are essential to human life. They ensure the supply of drinking water, sequester CO₂, mitigate the effects of climate change, are home to a high level of biodiversity and offer numerous opportunities for leisure activities. The “Wetlands for Life” campaign draws attention to the growing global threat to these habitats and calls on people to work together to protect them.

It also explains the background to the campaign launched by the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA) and shows how individuals can contribute to the conservation of these valuable habitats.
