Homo works just fine without ‘sapiens’

This special guided tour for adults at Salzburg Zoo invites you to discover the diversity of relationships and ways of life in the animal kingdom from a new perspective. For far beyond traditional notions of ‘mother, father, child’, nature reveals an astonishingly wide spectrum of social and sexual behaviours.

The approximately 1.5-hour tour offers fascinating insights into same-sex partnerships, flexible relationship models and alternative survival strategies among animals. It becomes clear that diversity in the animal kingdom is not an exception, but an integral part of natural ways of life.

The tour thus offers an informative yet surprising glimpse into the ‘colourful’ lives of animals, inviting visitors to question familiar ways of thinking and to get to know nature in all its diversity.

Pearls of wisdom:

    • What diverse relationship and lifestyle models exist in the animal world?
    • Does the animal kingdom consist solely of the classic ‘male and female’ pairing, or do same-sex and other forms of partnership also exist?
    • What biological characteristics, such as sex change, hermaphroditism or asexual reproduction, occur in animals, and what functions do they serve?

Love is diverse!
