Special bat tour

They navigate by using ultrasound, move confidently in complete darkness and have adapted perfectly to life at night. On our special evening bat tour, „Batman’s Real-Life Inspiration“, we’ll dive into the mysterious world of these unique mammals. Equipped with special bat detectors, we’ll make their calls audible. Along the way, we’ll learn fascinating facts about their way of life, their special abilities and the urgent necessity to protect them.

What to expect:

• Exclusive tour after the zoo closes, with a limited number of participants
• Detailed information about bats and their conservation from Austrian Coordination Center for Bat conservation and Research (KFFÖ)
• Use of bat detectors to make ultrasonic sounds audible

Itinerary:

6pm –  Zoo educator and a team member of KFFÖ welcome participants at the main entrance

• Introduction to the topic: The bat – a unique nocturnal mammal
• How to identify different bat species
• The bat’s biological ‘superpowers’
• How bat conservation works: rearing orphaned bats and providing alternative roosting sites with bat boxes
• Evening tour of the zoo to spot bats
• Visit to see the spectacled leaf-nosed bat living inside the Jaguar House

8.30pm –  Zoo educator and a team member of KFFÖ bid farewell to participants at the late exit

Further event details:

• Family tour starts at 3.30pm at the main entrance.
• The special bad tour starts promptly at 6pm at the main entrance (no late entry will be permitted, as the ticket office closes at 6pm)
• Cost: €15 for adults and €10 for children or teenagers (minimum age for participants: 7 years)
• Alternative date in the event of rain: Saturday, 26th September
• If the event is cancelled, participants will be informed in good time by telephone
• Number of participants: maximum 25 people
• We cannot guarantee the sighting of free-flying bats
• This tour does not focus on our zoo animals – with the exception of our spectacled leaf-nosed bats
