About busy little bees and animals with a sweet tooth

On Sunday, 31 May 2026, everything at Salzburg Zoo will revolve around bees and honey. And, of course, the well-known and much-loved bee ‘Sumsi’ will be visiting the zoo to say hello to her little, hard-working ‘fellow bees’.

Programme overview

From the honey extractor to the queen cage, there are all sorts of tools to discover that a beekeeper uses every day. Beekeeper Wolfgang demonstrates how to use them and answers questions about his profession and the bees. At the display hive, you can watch these hard-working creatures up close and, with a bit of luck, you might even spot the queen bee.

  • 10.30am Brown bear
  • 11.30am Bolivian squirrel monkey
  • 1.30pm Arctic wolf
  • 3pm Banded mongoose

The motto here is “Look closely!”. The aim is to find 15 hidden Sumsis around the zoo grounds. You should then enter the hiding places you’ve found in the puzzle passport. All participants in the puzzle rally who hand in their completed passport will receive a small prize.

At the craft table, everyone can make their own beeswax candle in exchange for a voluntary donation, or create an animal badge (for €2).

The two mascots, Lexi the lion and Sumsi the bee, are out and about at the zoo and are always happy to pose for lots of fun souvenir photos.

No registration required!
