The big egg hunt

Family event

Easter at the zoo

On Easter Sunday, 5 April 2026, everything at Salzburg Zoo will revolve around eggs – or rather, colourful Easter eggs. The Easter Bunny will be particularly busy hiding eggs on this day. For the eagerly awaiting young zoo visitors, the starting signal for the ‘big egg hunt’ will be given at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Animal experience

Some zoo residents can also look forward to an Easter surprise. Although eggs are already on the menu for mini pigs and banded mongooses, the animals really go to town for this real delicacy. The banded mongooses rely on their clever tactics. They are actually very skilled at ‘egg tapping’ and normally show several variations of it. For example, they like to throw the egg between their hind legs onto a stone or log. Zoo visitors can look forward to the commented feedings, during which facts are shared while the animals search for and enjoy their Easter baskets.
